Spencer Portfolio Objectives
Investments through the Spencer Portfolio seek to benefit from the flow of potential investment opportunities that come to the SHF via its presence in the corporate advisory arena. Such opportunities may relate to client companies or other situations which SHF may become aware of during the course of its activities. Frequently, these investment opportunities on advantageous terms may be placements, seed capital or pre-IPO investment.
SHF has access to management and boards of a range of companies which is not restricted to clients. SHF’s accumulated experience and the ability to gather information directly (non-confidential of course) provide insights that are useful in forming an assessment of the quality of an investment opportunity and the people promoting it. These insights are not available through quantitative analysis alone.
Consequently, the Spencer Portfolio is more entrepreneurial in nature but the higher risk is partly offset by the greater familiarity with each situation on a qualitative level.
